The empire that was

Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) conducted a photographic survey of the Russian Empire between 1909 and 1912 with the support of Tsar Nicholas II. He exposed three black and white glass negatives of each scene using red, green and blue filters to be able to later project his photographs in color before his audiences.

This would have to be one of the most inspiring collection of photos I have seen to date… The Empire That Was Russia. A colour rendering process, “Digichromatography”, was used to enhance Gorskii’s technique so that we may view his photos as he had intended today.
