I have been in Graz, Austria, since the end of September and will remain here for at least another two to three months. For such a relatively quiet city, it has much to offer those of us who tinker at our words, sounds and ideas from dusk to dawn, from dawn to dusk.
Graz has been described as boring, inspiring, conservative, liberal and in parts, unpredictable and dangerous. The people are said to be supportive, encouraging and in general, helpful and curious. It is known as the retirement village for the post-war generation and the first school of jazz in Europe was founded here.
There are its many festivals, jazz venues, electronic music events and a community radio station. The University for Music and Performing Arts, the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics and University for Applied Sciences are just three of the important learning centres that draw musicians and composers the world over to this city.

We all know how painful it is to let go of the things you love, the things you have nurtured and given life to. I have had to do just that with Toy Satellite. It has been time to move on...
Last year apc.au had decommissioned c2o, it's hosting servers and along with moving to an entire virtual operation, it has sought to either continue to support Toy Satellite initiatives, or that of its own. After much soul searching, we chose the latter.
http://toysatellite.org/ is now an archive of Toy Satellite's contribution to Australian New Media - a decade of innovation and experimentation from its founding in 1995 to its subsequent closure in 2005.

A complete recording of GRIT #02 will be available soon, but in the meantime, here's a snippet from what was a very enjoyable and, if I can say so, moving performance.
I'd managed to hit higher notes than I'd expected without any preparation... unfortunately, someone sitting right up front decided to crush a plastic cup through the last few minutes of the piece. This was off-putting to say the least!
The final work consisted of a remix of the Frequency Post series I had curated for KunstRadio. It was entirely inspiring to perform in the Great Hall in the MAK. The fresco's overhead tired my eyes... the 8 second delay native to this space was a terrific addition to my voice work.
